PROMISES MADE by Bernice Layton - One quiet day, while sitting on a swing, a promise was made of a wedding ring...
It’s been seventeen years since a silly promise was made between an adolescent girl with a pre-pubescent crush, to the “cutest” teenage boy ever. So what a big surprise when after all these years, Craig has called Renee to collect on that promise; a call that will stir up old memories and feelings long forgotten, or so it seemed. He was still the charismatic, confident and dangerously handsome “older boy” she had been obsessively in love with. He’s hoping she’s still the awkwardly skinny and shy little sister of his childhood best friend, and with ulterior motives in tow, he hopes she still has that little crush on him and intentions on keeping her promise.
After all, he’s set to collect a $3 million dollar inheritance if she does. But is Renee still the shy little sister as he remembers her, or does she have motives of her own if she intends to keep the promise? Will her time-bomb-ticking, con-artist, ex-boyfriend be more than Craig is willing to deal with to secure his fortune, or will a blackmailer who knows the truth about Craig’s intentions ruin it first? Ultimately, their unsuspecting families are thrown into their “arrangement” because of an innocent promise entangled in a web of deceit, lies and love? Yes… love, because it was a promise made for love. And while Craig’s plan is a solid way to the money, he had not banked on reuniting with the mysterious, smart and surprisingly beautiful woman, Renee has now become. Unable to come clean with so much at stake, while falling deeper and deeper into a sham of love, they find that the passion ignited by a young girl’s heart may be their biggest gamble.
